Red Wings sign Ilari Filppula

06/16/2010 - Detroit, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Detroit Red Wings agreed to terms on a one- year deal with forward Ilari Filppula on Wednesday.

Per team policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

Filppula, 28, who was playing in the Finnish Elite League for TPS Turku the last two seasons, is the older brother Red Wings forward Valtteri Filppula.

The Vantaa, Finland, native tallied 12 goals and 37 assists in 58 contests last season. His 59 points led the club and was good for ninth-best in the league.

Ilari Filppula also claimed the Jari Kurri Award as the Finnish Elite League's playoff Most Valuable Player last season for tallying two goals and 12 helpers in 15 playoff games. His stellar postseason led TPS Turku to win the SM-Iiiga title for the first time since 2000-01.
