Streaking Commodores set to battle Bulldogs

NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

02/21/2007 - Starkville, MS (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Fresh off one of the most memorable victories in recent memory for the program, the 17th-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores hope to carry the momentum into tonight's SEC clash with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Vanderbilt recorded its first win over the nation's top-ranked team in 14 year by besting Florida on Saturday in an 83-70 final. That victory was the second straight for the over-achieving Commodores, who are 18-8 overall and 8-4 in league play. Clearly, they are in tremendous position to claim an at-large bid to the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

Mississippi State has recorded three straight victories to keep alive its hopes of reaching the "Big Dance." The Bulldogs, who are now 15-10 overall and 6-6 in league play, are coming off a 56-50 decision over LSU on the road. They are 11-3 at home this season and will not lay down for the Commodores.

Vanderbilt holds a 70-41 lead in the all-time series with Mississippi State, and the Commodores rolled to an 80-52 victory in the only meeting last season.

The fact that Vanderbilt was able to shoot 57.1 percent from the floor against Florida, including 10-of-21 from three-point range, is staggering. The Commodores held an eight-point lead at intermission and played with a tremendous amount of energy over the final 20 minutes to fend off the Gators. Vandy scored 25 points off 22 UF turnovers, and both Shan Foster and Derrick Byars scored 24 points in the victory. Byars, the reigning SEC Player of the Week, also finished with eight assists and five steals. Ross Neltner pitched in 15 points for the Commodores, who are averaging 76.9 ppg this season. Byars is posting 16.8 ppg, and Foster adds 15.0 ppg. Dan Cage (11.3 ppg) and Neltner (10.2 ppg) supply balance to the lineup, and Vandy has forced over 400 turnovers.

The Bulldogs played dominant defense at LSU on Saturday, limiting the disappointing Tigers to 35.6 percent shooting from the field, including a 3-of-16 effort from three-point range. The Bulldogs only scored 56 points in that clash, but the lackluster offensive effort was enough to score a road win. Give credit to Charles Rhodes and Jamont Gordon, as both finished with 15 points for MSU. Gordon continues to be one of the most underrated players in the nation, as he is scoring 16.1 ppg to go along with 7.2 rpg and 4.6 apg. Rhodes is a steady force on the front line who is netting 12.9 ppg to go along with 6.0 rpg. Barry Stewart rounds out a trio of double-digit scorers with 10.8 ppg off the bench.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect

LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.

Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.

Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.
