11/11/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Colorado Avalanche are making Denver a tough place to play for teams in the NHL.

Heading into play on Sunday, the Avalanche own the best home record in the Western Conference at 8-1-0. Only Eastern Conference resident Ottawa has more points (9-2-0) so far on home ice, while Philadelphia has the best winning percentage at home with a 5-0-0 mark.

Those teams aside, Colorado can match its best home record after 10 games -- based on points or points percentage -- with a win against the Wild on Sunday. The 1995-96 club went 8-0-2 in its first 10 home games en route to a 104-point season and a first-place finish.

Colorado, of course, also went on to win the Stanley Cup Championship that season.

However, a win over the Wild on Sunday would give the Avalanche a franchise- best nine wins in their first 10 home tests.

Colorado is 4-1-0 at home against the Northwest Division, a big reason the club leads Minnesota by one point for first place in the standings. The Avs are also outscoring their opponents, 37-21, on home ice.

Rising star Paul Stastny has excelled for the Avs at the Pepsi Center. He has 17 points -- six goals and 11 assists -- in nine home contests, giving him an average of nearly two points (1.89) per game.

Stastny is also a league best plus-12 at home and has five multi-point games in Denver this year. That includes a career-high five-point night (1 goal, 4 assists) against San Jose on October 7.
